1. Introduction to this edition of the MISRA newsletter

Welcome to the latest edition of the MISRA newsletter!

The MISRA newsletter exists to provide news and information relating to MISRA (The Motor Industry Software Reliability Association), its documents and activities.  This issue is being sent to those who have registered to receive our email updates.

If you do not wish to receive future issues of this newsletter, please follow the instructions at the start of this message to unsubscribe.

Please note that the mailing list used to distribute this newsletter is not a discussion list. If you try to post to it, your post will be rejected automatically. If you have a point for discussion or a question, please use our Bulletin Board (see item 5).

2. MISRA session at SAE World Congress

At this year's SAE World Congress in Detroit, MI, USA, there will be a dedicated MISRA session on the afternoon of Tuesday 15 April. This will provide the opportunity to hear about the latest developments, particularly MISRA C, MISRA C++ and MISRA autocode as well as to meet the presenters and ask them questions directly about MISRA's activities. If you are a registered attendee at the Congress, do come along to the session. It is at 13:30 EDT in Room M2-30. For further details see:

http://www.sae.org/servlets/techSession?EVT_NAME=AE9&GROUP_CD=TSESS&SCHED_NUM=162036&REQUEST_TYPE=SESSION_DETAILS

3. MISRA C reprint

Supplies of hardcopies of the original print run of MISRA C2 have recently been exhausted, and we have taken the decision to reprint incorporating the text of Technical Corrigendum 1. This second edition of MISRA C2 (MISRA-C:2004) will be available in May 2008. At the same time, the webstore version will be updated so that all new purchases will automatically receive the new version.

We regret that we cannot provide upgrades for individual users, but corporate users who have purchased a PDF and wish to upgrade it may do so on payment of a small fee. Please enquire for details once the document has been released.

4. MISRA C++

MISRA is pleased to announce that MISRA C++ will be published on 5 June 2008 and launched at the Safety-Critical Systems Club Tools Event in London on that date. Please see http://www.scsc.org.uk/diary.html?opt=detail&id=70 for details of the event and how to register.

A more in-depth workshop/tutorial session on MISRA C++ is planned for the MISRA Conference - see below.

Copies of MISRA C++, in both hardcopy and PDF formats, will be available to purchase from the MISRA webstore after the launch date. Prices will be announced nearer the time. We regret that we cannot accept pre-orders for the document at this time.

5. MISRA Conference

We are again planning a MISRA Conference in the Autumn of 2008. Further details will be available in the next newsletter, but we are planning to include more in-depth workshop/tutorial sessions on MISRA C++.

6. MISRA Autocode - call for participants

MISRA is making good progress on the MISRA AC SLSF guidelines for the application of Simulink for automatic code generation. We expect to release the MISRA AC SLSF guidelines at the MISRA Conference, and there will be a further public review before then which will be announced in a future edition of this newsletter.

The MISRA AC SLSF guidelines provide advice that is generically applicable to Simulink control system models. Therefore, users will need to supplement MISRA AC SLSF with additional MISRA guidelines specific to the target code generator being used. To date, MISRA has launched the MISRA AC TL guidelines for the Targetlink code generator but in order to satisfy the needs of the user community, MISRA is keen to complete guidelines for other code generators such as Embedded Coder, ASCET and SCADE as required by the user community.

MISRA would therefore like to invite users of these code generators to join MISRA working groups and participate in the development of these guidelines. If you are interested in contributing, please register your interest by contacting the chairman of the MISRA Autocode activity, Steve Montgomery (Steve (dot) Montgomery (at) ricardo (dot) com). You should include a brief statement of your experience, what contribution you would make to the activity and your availability for meetings in the UK or Europe. We will review all applications and inform successful applicants of the next steps.

7. MISRA Bulletin Board

The MISRA Bulletin Board has recently been updated with new Forums for discussing and asking questions about MISRA SA and MISRA AC, as well as the existing MISRA C discussions. Visit http://www.misra.org.uk/forum/ to join in. The Resources section (visible to registered users who have logged-in) contains supporting information for some of the MISRA publications. The Board has recently been updated with a new look and a clearer user interface.

8. Data protection

By registering with MISRA or using the webstore you give consent for your registration details to be stored in a database system by MIRA. Your details will not be passed to a third party although we may occasionally contact you with details of other products or services that may be of interest.

If you wish to have your details amended or deleted please contact MISRA. You can update your details or remove yourself from this mailing list at any time by following the instructions in this message.
