1. Introduction to this edition of the MISRA newsletter
Welcome to the latest edition of the MISRA newsletter!
The MISRA newsletter exists to provide news and information relating to MISRA (The Motor Industry Software Reliability Association), its documents and activities. This issue is being sent to those who have registered to receive our email updates.
If you do not wish to receive future issues of this newsletter, please follow the instructions at the start of this message to unsubscribe.
Please note that the mailing list used to distribute this newsletter is not a discussion list. If you try to post to it, your post will be rejected automatically. If you have a point for discussion or a question, please use our Bulletin Board (see item 7).
2. MISRA Safety Analysis published
MISRA is pleased to announce that the new document "Guidelines for safety analysis of vehicle based programmable systems" was officially launched at the MISRA Conference held on 29 November 2007.
This new document provides an extension to the original MISRA "Development Guidelines for Vehicle Based Software", in that it gives extended detailed advice on the sections on Integrity and Safety Analysis, as well as presenting additional advice on other parts of safety management and the safety lifecycle. Key features of this document include:
The document is available to purchase in hardcopy and PDF formats from the MISRA web store.
3. MISRA Autocode documents published
At the same event the first two publications from the MISRA Autocode activity were also launched. These are:
These documents are initially available in PDF format only, from the MISRA web store. In addition, an introductory document MISRA AC INT is available for free download from the "Resources" section of the MISRA Bulletin Board (see below).
Work continues on the MISRA AC SLSF guidelines and it is anticipated that an announcement will be made concerning a second draft for public review in the first quarter of 2008.
4. MISRA C++ update
Following the recent draft for comment, we received nearly 1000 individual comments from over 30 reviewers. The working group have now reviewed all of these comments and are preparing the final version for publication. We hope to release it in the first quarter of 2008.
I would like to thank all the reviewers for the time and effort in providing these comments, which are invaluable in ensuring the quality and acceptability of the final document.
The launch of MISRA C++ will be announced in a future edition of this newsletter and on the MISRA website.
5. Other MISRA documents
We have taken the opportunity to revise and streamline availability of other MISRA documents. PDFs of the 1994 "Development Guidelines" and MISRA C Version 1 are now available for purchase from the web store along with the supporting reports of "Development Guidelines." The previous downloads area on the MISRA website has now closed.
Resources and other supporting documents that are free are available from the "Resources" section of the MISRA bulletin board (see below). Resources currently available are the MISRA C Exemplar Suite, MISRA-C:2004 Technical Corrigendum 1, a MISRA SRfP example spreadsheet and the MISRA AC INT document.
6. MISRA Conference
Nearly 70 delegates attended the recent MISRA Conference in Coventry, UK. As well as the official launch of the MISRA Safety Analysis Guidelines and the first publications from the MISRA Autocode activity, keynote presentations were made on two related activities: the work towards the new automotive functional safety standard ISO 26262 and the revision to the civil aviation software guideline DO-178C.
These presentations were followed by parallel workshop sessions on the MISRA language subset activities and the MISRA Safety Analysis guidelines.
The majority of the presentations are now available from the MISRA website.
7. MISRA Bulletin Board
The MISRA Bulletin Board has been updated with new Forums for discussing and asking questions about MISRA SA and MISRA AC, as well as the existing MISRA C discussions. Visit http://www.misra.org.uk/forum/index.php to join in. The Resources section (visible to registered users
who have logged-in) contains supporting information for some of the MISRA publications including at present MISRA C, MISRA SRfP and MISRA AC.
