1. Introduction to this edition of the MISRA newsletter
Welcome to the latest edition of the MISRA newsletter!
The MISRA newsletter exists to provide news and information relating to MISRA (The Motor Industry Software Reliability Association), its documents and activities. This issue is being sent to those who have registered to receive our email updates.
If you do not wish to receive future issues of this newsletter, please follow the instructions at the start of this message to unsubscribe.
Please note that the mailing list used to distribute this newsletter is not a discussion list. If you try to post to it, your post will be rejected automatically. If you have a point for discussion or a question, please use our web forum (see item 6).
2. MISRA C++ draft for public comment
MISRA has been developing a set of guidelines for the use of the C++ language in critical systems. The aim of the guidelines is to provide a set of rules, in a similar fashion to the MISRA C rules, which encourage good programming practices and avoid poorly-defined or insecure features of the language.
MISRA is pleased to announce that a draft of MISRA C++ is now available for public comment.
To participate in the review, please download a reply form from the MISRA website and return it by fax or post to MIRA at the address shown at the top of the form. As this form requires a signature to indicate acceptance of the terms of the review, only fully completed and signed copies can be accepted.
We will then send you the draft and the details of the review process.
The review reply form can be found at http://www.misra.org.uk/misra_cpp_eoi.pdf
3. New MISRA C resources
MISRA is pleased to announce the availability of the following new resources for MISRA C:
The Exemplar Suite is a collection of over 200 code examples that are intended to illustrate the use of the MISRA C rules, through examples of compliant and non-compliant code. Please note that it is not a compliance or conformance test suite, since considerably more examples would also be needed in such a suite. Also MISRA does not offer compliance or conformance testing for tools or products.
Use of the Exemplar Suite is free to individual users. Any tool vendors who wish to distribute the suite with their product may do so on payment of a license fee. Please enquire for details.
The Technical Clarification has been developed based on questions asked by MISRA C users on the Forum and also that have arisen during the development of the Exemplar Suite. It provides amendments to the current version of MISRA C and is designed to be used in conjunction with a copy of MISRA-C:2004.
Both resources may be downloaded from the MISRA Forum (free registration required).
4. Update on other MISRA activities
Please watch the MISRA web site and the next edition of this newsletter for further information on MISRA's other ongoing activities, including publication of the first deliverables from the MISRA Autocode activity and the MISRA Safety Analysis Guidelines.
5. MISRA Conference
Following the success of earlier events, we are again hosting a meeting of the MISRA Guidelines Forum. It will be held on 29 November 2007 in Coventry, UK, and will take the form of a conference covering various aspects of MISRA's activities.
MISRA is launching several new documents in 2007, including MISRA Safety Analysis, the first parts of MISRA Autocode, and MISRA C++. This event will be an opportunity to learn more about the new MISRA publications, as well as to share user experience with existing documents. There will also be a small exhibition.
Further details, including a programme and how to book, will be posted shortly on the MISRA website, but
in the meantime please reserve the date in your diary.
