1. Introduction to this edition of the MISRA newsletter
-------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the latest edition of the MISRA newsletter!

The MISRA newsletter exists to provide news and information relating to MISRA (The Motor Industry Software Reliability Association), its documents and activities. This issue is being sent to those who have registered to receive our email updates.

If you do not wish to receive future issues of this newsletter, please follow the instructions at the start of this message to unsubscribe.

Please note that the mailing list used to distribute this newsletter is not a discussion list. If you try to post to it, your post will be rejected automatically. If you have a point for discussion or a question, please use our web forum (see item 5).

2. MISRA Autocode review
------------------------

MISRA has been developing a set of guidelines for users of control system modelling packages. The aim of the guidelines is to provide a set of rules, in a similar fashion to the MISRA C rules, which encourage good modelling practices and avoid poorly-defined features of the modelling language. In light of automotive industry trends, some rules will be aimed at the use of automatic code generators in safety-related systems.

Following the initial activities of this Working Group, MISRA is pleased to announce that drafts of the first documents will be available shortly for public comment. These documents are:

* MISRA SLSF - guidelines for users of Simulink and Stateflow
* MISRA TL - guidelines for users of Targetlink
* MISRA ACG - guidelines for compliance with MISRA C in automatically-generated code

To participate in the review, please download a reply form from the MISRA website and return it by fax or post to MIRA at the address shown at the top of the form. As this form requires a signature to indicate acceptance of the terms of the review, only fully completed and signed copies can be accepted.

You will receive an acknowledgement for your form and we will contact you again once the documents are available to send you the drafts and the details of the review process.

The review reply form can be found at http://www.misra.org.uk/misra_ac_eoi.pdf

3. New Controllability Technical Report
---------------------------------------

MISRA is pleased to announce that a new Technical Report "The use of Controllability for the
Classification of Automotive Vehicle Hazards" has been published. This report gives details of a study that was conducted to evaluate the Controllability concept for automotive hazard analysis using driving simulator experiments. The specific objectives of the study were to:

* Evaluate the probability of an incident or accident for hazards with differing controllability classifications.
* Evaluate the degree to which a "paper based" analysis of a hazard's controllability classification accurately reflects human responses to those hazards.

This report is available for a free download (registration required) from the publications area of the MISRA website. Select "Publications" then look at the section at the bottom of the page on "PDF documents". Please note this report is not available from the MISRA webstore.

4. Other MISRA activities
